Visa For Music is Africa and the Middle East’s first professional music-industry market, launched in 2013 and built around some 30 showcases plus conferences, documentary screenings, speed-meetings and workshops. It was founded to address a gap between the strength of artistic creation coming out of Africa and the Middle East and the lack of international visibility for those musicians, with a focus on world and contemporary music. This coverage was shot backstage-to-stage in Rabat, splitting the story between two visual registers: raw, high-contrast black-and-white performance shots capturing artists mid-set under stage lighting, and quieter, more candid color images of the moments between showcases, musicians relaxing, greeting each other or preparing in the green room before their next set.
